In response to this NY Times editorial, Komori, in this post, shows the defensiveness of Japanese nationalists — and why Congress is not in a position to criticize Japan’s treatment of its own history.
He wrote (my translation): “How arrogant! What about the inhuman acts that were the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki? What about the fire bombing of Tokyo?”
I have to imagine that he is not alone in that reaction to US criticism on the comfort women issue.
Once again, historical acceptance cannot be dictated, certainly not by a foreign government.
