"Our Far East Partner"

The title of this post is the name of a propaganda film produced by the US Army sometime after the end of the occupation that I found at the Internet Archive. Makes for interesting viewing as we mark the alliance’s fiftieth anniversary.

I wouldn't have picked you as buying into the manufactured notion that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the US-Japan alliance. What makes the revision of an agreement first signed some eight years earlier and only refered to as an \”alliance\” some two decades later, particularly noteworthy? I'll grant you that the AMPO ratification controversy in June 1960 stands as an important turning point within the context of Japanese history, but I bet there won't be many people talking about that aspect of \”where we have been\” in Washington. And the beginning of an alliance, it ain't. Oh well, if you like parties and opportunities to promote yourself, I suppose you can do what you like with history.

This video just would not play on my iBook G4 (OS v10.4.11, Firefox 3.5.7), whereas videos to be found on Japan Probe do so without any problem. Is the video available in some other format perhaps?
